Original Article 24 Jun 2012 (there is 1 update below): I had the opportunity to stay at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in December of 2011, which is the setting for TPC San Antonio, including the AT&T Oaks Course where they play the Valero Open. From what I saw firsthand of the golf course, which I’ll admit wasn’t much, nothing looked easy on this course.
First, you drive more than an hour out of your way to find the lighthouse you thought was a few minutes off the highway (I-75, near Boca Grande, Florida). You then spend another hour or so looking the area over, including the lighthouse, actually a lighthouse and a light tower, and then finding a chapel, all part of Gasparilla Island State Park. You don’t have to travel to Europe or South America to visit a monastery or abbey. I don’t know how many there are in the US, probably quite a few, but I found one. By accident. I was riding around the north Tampa area in Pasco County with a friend when I happened to see almost the exact scene below, so I had him turn around.
